#Rest@rt continues its activities on Santorini with the group painting exhibition “THINK OF ME”
The popular art platform #Rest@rt Contemporary Art Platform is continuing its activities on the islands and on Saturday 26 August presents the group exhibition “THINK OF ME” at Aqua Gallery in Pyrgos, Santorini.
The concept and organisation are by Dimitris Lazarou and the curation by the art historian and artist Konstantinos Vafiadis. The exhibition is presented in the new 24-hour art space that Aqua Vista Hotels has created in the spacious lobby of the Art Hotel in Pyrgos, Santorini (www.aquavistahotels.com // www.arthotelsantorini.com).
From Wednesday 24 August to Wednesday 4 October, #Rest@rt presents paintings by 25 contemporary artists, most of them made especially for this exhibition.
The art historian and artist Konstantinos Vafiadis notes:
“THINK OF ME means communion, and therefore identification with the otherness of others. It means the anguish of thinking as another, beyond the crumbling boundaries of subjectivism, beyond self-confinement in the dismal prison of the Ego. In art, and above all in the practice of the visual arts, the process of thinking as another creates the conditions for transcending the identity of the Ego and the futile self-reference that the Ego entails. It also concerns the exploration of the dimensions of our consciousness and the recording of the entities of our psychological reality, that is, the recording of the realities that each of us gives shape to and establishes.
The works in this exhibition bear witness, in many different ways, to these dimensions of thinking. In some of them the confinement of existence, and the resulting urge to identify with the separate parts of our being, is plainly visible. In others, gestural mark-making captures the futility of extroversion. All of them, however, amount to an unspoken cry, searching for some response in the universe of silence.”

The #Rest@rt art platform operates under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and is non-profit; the exhibitions it presents aim to showcase contemporary Greek art and to offer a high-quality cultural experience to the international visitors of the venues the platform works with. Under the artistic direction of the sculptor Kelly, #Rest@rt has won excellent reviews both for the standard of the works it shows and for the way it makes artistic use of the spaces in which the exhibitions are held. More than a hundred contemporary artists take part in the platform, and paintings, sculptures, video projections and installations are shown to the public.
Other projects by the platform are already on show in the villas of North Luxury Villas, a luxury property in Pyrgos, Santorini (www.santorininorthvillas.com), and at the “Lindos Blu Luxury Hotels and Suites” hotel on Rhodes (www.lindosblu.gr).
