Thread from the moon, needle from the sun
fairy-tale storytelling
The tales that Kalliopi Liadi will tell in the warm, welcoming space of Zp87 (Zoodochou Pigis 87, Exarcheia) are woven with “Thread from the moon, needle from the sun”.
The storytelling is for adults and teenagers and will take place on Thursday 2 February at 9.00 pm and on Sunday 5 February 2017 at 8.00 pm.
The musician Thymios Papadopoulos will play flutes and guitar, while the painter Maria Pastra will transfer onto canvas the words and images that spring up as the tales converse with the music. Lit at times by a faint or gentle light, at others by a light that is strong, clear or redemptive, the tales carry us off with their heroes to an enchanted kingdom, a clearing, a wild gorge, the bottom of the sea and the middle of the ocean…
The sounds of the wind instruments and the guitar embrace them; the brushes and colours light up moments from them on the canvas.
Admission is by voluntary contribution.
The artists
Kalliopi Liadi
She was born in Athens and her family comes from Chios. She studied painting in New York and has followed many different paths in the field of creative expression (taking part in exhibitions, music ensembles and theatre groups; organising, curating and producing exhibitions, cultural events and programmes; coordinating art workshops; writing articles, and more). Those that have come to an end ended happily, while some are still unfolding. Important milestones along the way were her move to Chios (2005–2009) and the founding there of the Kalliopi Art Gallery (2006–2013).
In the winter of 2012 she attended the first cycle of the seminar “Para-Mytheomai” with the storyteller Sasa Voulgari, and so entered the world of the art of storytelling, which she now explores. In autumn 2014 she began the two-year programme of the School of Storytelling at the Centre for the Study and Dissemination of Myths and Fairy Tales, which she completed in June 2016.
She is currently attending Katerina Vlachou’s storytelling workshop and the “360 Degrees” workshop of the School of Storytelling at the Centre for the Study and Dissemination of Myths and Fairy Tales.
She loves listening to fairy tales, the blue of dusk, poetry and silence. She believes in collaboration, good humour and light.
Thymios Papadopoulos
He was born in Lamia in 1957. He studied law, music theory, clarinet and saxophone in Athens and New York. One of the most “recorded” Greek musicians, he has played on a wealth of contemporary Greek albums as a musician, arranger, producer and composer. He works regularly with Thanos Mikroutsikos, Haris and Panos Katsimihas, Giorgos Andreou, Mario Frangoulis, Manolis Lidakis, Eleni Tsaligopoulou, Foivos Delivorias, Christos Thiveos and Miltos Paschalidis.
He has written the music for more than 50 theatre productions and films, receiving the State Prize for Film Music (1997). His songs have been sung by Haris and Panos Katsimihas, Kostas Makedonas, Mario Frangoulis, Manolis Lidakis, Savina Yannatou, Stella Konitopoulou, Konstantinos Paliatsaras, Christos Thiveos and Miltos Paschalidis, among others.
With Vangelis Katsoulis he co-founded the independent record label UTOPIA, which has released many albums of contemporary Greek music.
From 1992 to 2008 he was head of production at SONY MUSIC Greece and ran the AKTI record label. As a producer he has also worked with almost every Greek record label.

She read chemistry at the School of Natural Sciences of the University of Patras and worked for twenty-four years as an executive, mainly in the petroleum products sector of EKO ABEE (Hellenic Petroleum Group).
Alongside this, she studied painting as follows: from 1999 to 2001, painting classes with Daniil Spyropoulos at Athens College; from 2001 to 2006, with Giorgos Rorris at the art spaces “Apopsi” and “Simio”.
From 2006 to 2012 she studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts: painting under Professor Triantafyllos Patraskidis; icon painting, fresco and encaustic under Professor Pavlos Samios; and multimedia with Manthos Santorinaios. She also took classes in art education with Professor Titika Salla.
