Curatorial notes and observations on the work of LaLa Art Group artist Maria Pastra

the “TOPOLOGIES” PROJECT

Text: Angela Brisnovali

“Topologies” here are characterized by personal or communal memory and memory itself is carried along by its own “topologies” in the work of Maria Pastra who fixed a topological small-universe of personal memories in the common objects, “the furniture” of a familiar place (topos), “the home”. It is in the action of siting-around either in anticipation of the future or in resting from the past, that Maria’s “furniture” stand for our lives; common, predictable and familiar. A common “thread” to the concept of sitting as in a fixed topological-stigma, that of the home, is “woven” again this time in the daily actions of her characters through their hands. Working-hands that weave their past and their future stories. Lyrical images are projected as the energy of all people that existed in the past and will exist in these latitudes and longitudes in the future.
